Roosters and Steggles end on high note for charities despite loss
The season may have drawn to a close for the Sydney Roosters but the footballers, together with iconic Australian poultry brand Steggles, continue to kick some goals with their Charity Nest to donate $409,000 to children's charities.
The Charity Nest saw Steggles donate $1000 for every point the Sydney Roosters beat their opposition by in the 2010 season, with Sydney Roosters also contributing $250 a point.
Steggles Managing Director, John Camilleri said: "The Roosters have shown amazing commitment both on and off the field this year. With our shared belief in giving back to the community, it has been a highly successful season and we are proud to be able to support some fantastic Australian children's charities."
Roosters CEO Stephen Noyce said: "It's been a fantastic season and we are very happy to partner with Steggles to help children's charities in this way."
Sydney-based charity Lifestart has allocated the money towards a new early childhood intervention centre for children with disability or developmental delay while the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation will use the funds to purchase an Ear, Nose and Throat Imaging Stack.
Lifestart CEO Sue Becker said: "On behalf of the board, kids, families and staff at Lifestart, we're extremely grateful for the generosity and support shown by Steggles and the Sydney Roosters throughout the year."
"Steggles and the Sydney Roosters have shown great leadership in supporting children's charities with real assistance and always giving so willingly."
Other charities to receive an equal portion from the Charity Nest include Royal Children's Hospital Brisbane (Working Wonders program), Camp Quality, the Children's Cancer Research Institute, Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and Autism SA.
