Steggles and Roosters welcome Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children as 2013 Charity of Choice
The Steggles Sydney Roosters Charity Nest welcomes the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC) as the 2013 "Charity of Choice" joining the Children's Health Foundation Queensland, Children"s Cancer Institute and Lifestart.
RIDBC, established in 1860, provides a wide range of quality and innovative education services to thousands of hearing and vision impaired children throughout Australia. In order to maintain its intensive educational and research programs, the organisation needs to raise approximately $2.5 million every month.
Funds raised through 2013 will be invested in progressive educational technology that will assist children with vision or hearing loss learn and communicate.
RIDBC Chief Executive Chris Rehn said: "The Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children is extremely grateful to be chosen as the Steggles and Sydney Roosters Charity of Choice for 2013. The partnership provides not only much-needed funds, but also an outstanding opportunity to raise awareness of the work of RIDBC.
"Without such generous support from the corporate sector, RIDBC wouldn"t be able to provide high quality services to thousands of children and families across Australia."
Since the initiative was first launch in 2010, the Steggles Roosters Charity Nest has raised $820,000 for Australian children"s charities. The goal this year is to exceed the $1 million mark.
Steggles CEO Simon Camilleri said: "The Steggles Roosters Charity Nest is something we are very proud of. We find it very rewarding to work with a new charity each year to help raise funds and awareness. We look forward to the year ahead with RIDBC".
Roosters Chief Operating Officer, Commercial, Ted Helliar said: "The boys are ready for a big year, and a part of that is knowing they are able to help raise money for those who need it via the Charity Nest. Everyone here wants to hit that million dollar mark!"
The Charity Nest sees Steggles, major sponsor of the Sydney Roosters, donate $1000 for every point the Roosters beat the opposition by in 2013, while the Roosters contribute $250 per point. Additionally, in 2013 the Sydney Roosters will contribute $1,000 for each win by their under 20s Holden Cup team.
Contributions made to last year"s Charity of Choice, Save Our Sons, helped to fund a human clinical trial to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a disease which affects one in 3,500 young boys and has a 100 per cent mortality rate.
