Steggles and Sydney Roosters announce new addition to Charity Nest for 2011 NRL season

Iconic Australian poultry brand Steggles and the Sydney Roosters have announced that nationalnot-for-profit organisation Special Olympics Australia has been selected to benefit from theirCharity Nest in the 2011 NRL season.

The announcement was made at the Sydney Roosters season launch on Monday night ahead of the 2011 NRL term, which kicks off on Friday.

The Charity Nest sees Steggles, major sponsor for the Sydney Roosters, donate $1000 for every point the Roosters beat their opposition by in 2011, while the Roosters will also contribute $250 per point.

Other charities to receive an equal portion from the Steggles Charity Nest include Royal Children’s Hospital Brisbane (Working Wonders program), the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia and Lifestart.

Steggles CEO John Camilleri said: “The Sydney Roosters success last season was beyond our expectations and an outstanding achievement for the Steggles Charity Nest, raising over $400,000 for Australian children’s charities.

“This year, we’re proud to extend our support to Special Olympics Australia through the Steggles Charity Nest and we look forward to a successful partnership this season.”

Roosters CEO Stephen Noyce said: “We really found last year the team stood up to the challenge to push themselves a little harder each game to raise more money for the Steggles Roosters Charity Nest. I have no doubt that they will stretch themselves again in the 2011 season and burst through the $409,000.”

Special Olympics Australia CEO Catriona Barry said: “We are delighted that Steggles and the Sydney Roosters have chosen to support Special Olympics athletes with an intellectual disability. Many of our athletes, including Saxon Graham who spoke at the launch, are huge fans and we will be cheering on the team throughout the season.”

Special Olympics Australia transforms the lives of people with an intellectual disability through sport and allows them to have fun, make friends, develop confidence and feel part of the community while taking pride in their individual talents and abilities. The organisation relies heavily on its sponsors to help maintain and grow its program which currently embraces around 5,000 athletes across the country.
