Naveah’s Story

At just four years old, Nevaeh is learning the language of strength, one bead at a time. Her collection of Bravery Beads, earned through scans and surgeries and countless brave moments, now strings together the story of her journey from a neuroblastoma diagnosis to three cancer-free years.

Her mum, Bec, watches her daughter transform each hospital appointment into something meaningful. Where there was once fear, the Bravery Beads program by Children’s Hospital Foundation created joy, with each bead being a tangible reminder of resilience. Now, instead of clinic schedules filling their calendar, Nevaeh’s days are splashed with swimming lessons, bike rides and towers of Magna tiles stacked higher and higher.

When Nevaeh looks at her beads, she doesn’t see the hard days. She sees proof of what she’s overcome, each tiny, colourful bead a monument to her courage. And Bec sees something too: a daughter learning that strength isn’t about never being scared. It’s about showing up and being celebrated for it.

Rory’s Story

At four years old, Rory was happiest in the garden with his mum, Jen, watching seedlings push through soil and learning the patience that plants require. Then, almost overnight, everything changed.

When leukemia arrived in October 2023, it came like a grenade through their world. Within hours, Rory was airlifted to Sydney Children’s Hospital. His toy dinosaur, Derek, became his constant companion through months of treatment, a small friend for the big, scary days. Jen watched her boy show a different kind of strength: learning to swallow tablets himself, refusing to let illness define his courage.

Ronald McDonald House Australia became their anchor. A place where the family could stay together, where warmth, meals and other families who understood kept them grounded during one of the most difficult times in their lives.

Now Rory is back at school and back in his garden with Jen. The seedlings have grown. So has he. When he kneels in the soil with his siblings and beloved Derek beside him, planting something new, Jen sees it clearly: her son didn’t just survive. He learned what it means to bloom again.

Halle’s Story

Today, Halle is happy and healthy with a love for chicken Crimpies and grapes – a milestone her parents, Kim and Grant, once feared they might never see.

Born at just 26 weeks weighing 750 grams, Halle spent her first 80 days on breathing support in the NICU. While Kim sat beside her daughter’s cot, terrified and exhausted, Grant was balancing life at home with their son Ben, trying to hold their family together from a distance.

Ronald McDonald House Australia became more than a place to stay. On Kim’s first overwhelming night, a volunteer welcomed her with a warm meal and a comforting conversation. As the weeks passed, the meals shared around the kitchen table became about much more than food. They brought families together. Between mouthfuls and cups of tea, Kim shared fears, celebrated tiny wins and found comfort in people who truly understood what her family was going through. It was the connection, kindness and sense of community that came with every meal.

Today, every birthday is a reminder of how far they’ve come. Watching Halle celebrate surrounded by family and friends whose bonds were forged during those difficult months, Kim knows her daughter – and their family – are here because of the compassion, care and support of the people who stood beside them when they needed it most.

This July, we have transformed our Steggles Family Roast into the Charity Chook, turning an everyday roast into something more meaningful.

The Charity Chook will be available throughout the entire month of July, from July 1st to July 31st.

The Charity Chook (aka The Steggles Family Roast Chicken) donates 30c to support children’s charities in July.

All proceeds from the activation are shared amongst charities within the Steggles Charity Nest.

Steggles proudly supports a range of charities with a special focus on children and families. We will share all proceeds equally amongst the 12 charities.
